Darran Petty was born January 1st 1981 in Mildura, Victoria Australia. Life was tough from the start living without a father in his life until when he was six/seven his abusive, psychotic, drug addicted, alcoholic stepfather came into his life. Everything was chaotic from there on and throughout to his teenage years.
Darran Petty’s teenage years were even tougher after the death of his stepfather who died in Jail. Darran was forced to move away from his family home where he entered a very early life of drug and alcohol abuse. Life was extremely difficult without the proper guidance or family values.
In the year 2000 Darran Petty decided to change his life by starting a bodybuilding career after watching Arnold Schwarzenegger’s “Pumping Iron’. Although heavily intoxicated while watching it, Darran was determined to change and ultimately saved his life. The story of survival started here. Darran won State, National and International awards throughout his bodybuilding career before changing course to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, where he also became a State, National and International champion.
Darran now owns and operates the widely successful Trojan Academy in Hobart, Tasmania. But most notably (as Darran did with all of his pursuits) taught himself the art of filmmaking. He started the personal brand “Darran Petty Films”. Darran’s filmmaking passions are Documentary style films but has worked with many amazing people including mega star Arnold Schwarzenegger. Darran also runs his own podcast where he talks with everyday people about their personal stories.
